Dear Mr. Henshaw

This story is about a boy named Leigh Botts. Leigh wrote to his favorite author, Mr. Henshaw. He wrote letters and he sometimes wrote in a diary. Leigh sometimes started writing his own books. He has a dog named Bandit but his dad has him. Close to the end, his dad came to see him and his mother, and his dad brought Bandit back. At the end of the story, Leigh thinks his parents will get back together, but they don't.

I think this book is special because it is written in letters. I have never read a book like that before. It made me wonder how it is to have a dad, too. I like the character Leigh, because we are alike a little bit. I think it would be fun to have a dad, and Leigh did, too. I used to write letters to my family just like Leigh. They always wrote back to me, though, and Leigh hardly ever got answers.

I don't recommend "Dear Mr. Henshaw" because it made me kind of sad. I felt sorry for Leigh. People who want to read it should be 8 or older.
