This book is about a man and his children, Anna and Caleb. The man, Jacob, puts an advertisement in the newspaper for a wife. He does that because his wife died when she was having Caleb. Sarah answered the advertisement. She was willing to move from Maine to the middle of the United States. Sarah, Caleb, Anna, and Jacob did a lot of things together like making a dune and sliding down it. Sarah teaches the kids to swim in the cow pond. The story takes place in the pioneer days and there weren't any computers or TV. Will Jacob and Sarah get married? Read the book to find out.
My favorite part of the book is when Sarah, Anna, and Caleb swim in the cow pond because it was funny and the cow pond is for cows. Caleb was my favorite character because he was very happy and asked a lot of questions. He was also very funny. I thought Sarah was a stubborn and independent woman. When Jacob said the cat would be good in the barn, she said the cat would be good in the house too.
I recommend this book to people who like to read about the pioneer times.
