This story is about a cricket named Chester who finds his way to new York City in a picnic basket. Chester is originally from Connecticut. One day a little boy, Mario, picks him up and takes him to an unsuccessful newstand located in the subway station of Times Square. Mario and Chester meet a fast talking mouse named Tucker and Harry the cat. These friends have tome greate times, but they also have some bad times, like when Chester dreams of a willow leaf, and eats a dollar bill. The money would've helped the newstand.
My favorite part was when Mario's newsstnad finally became a success. It is kind of sad in the start because his life is dreary and he's from a very poor family.
The Cricket in Times Square is one of the best books I have ever read. It's an interesting and funny story that tells about friendship and the struggles of city life.
