This story takes place in Kentucky in 1857. Corey, a small slave boy lives and works on a large farm. One day his father escapes and the family is not sure if he is ever found or is safely in the north. The rest of the family decides to escape, too. They leave and find a lot of different troubles and are very scared. Corey tells his story through a daily diary.

I like this book because it is a type of biography, and it was interesting and fun to read. My favorite part was at the end, but I'm not telling if he found his father or not. This book is great for fourth and fifth grade students and for people who are interested in history.
