Melvin Beederman Superhero the Revenge of the McNasty Brothers

Melvin Beederman is a superhero who lives in Los Angeles, California. He has superpowers like being able to see people’s underwear and having super brain power, especially in math. Melvin is also like any other kid. He likes to hang out in his tree house and eat pretzels and drink root beer, while watching cartoons. His favorite cartoon is “The Adventures of Thunderman.” Melvin is also lonely sometimes. He is an orphan, so he adopts a pet rat and names him Hugo. Hugo is more than just a pet. He is a friend. Hugo really likes it when Melvin feeds him cheese. Melvin has another friend named Candace Brinkwater. She is Melvin’s assistant. Like Melvin, she wears a superhero cape and can fly. Candace is better and faster at flying than Melvin, but Melvin is much better at math than Candace. Candace did not go to the Superhero Academy so she does not know “The Code.” The Code is never saying no to a cry for help and knowing what to do or say when you get to the emergency. Despite this, Candace is able to assist Melvin and solve crimes. There are two terrible bad guys in this book, the McNasty Brothers. In the previous book, the brothers are taken to jail, thanks to Melvin’s crime-fighting skills and superhero powers. They plot revenge on Melvin and Candace with their terrible sisters. They are named the McNasty Sisters. One day, when Candace was at school, she got called down to the principal’s office. When she got there, the principal and the school secretary were tied up! The McNasty family grabbed Candace! Melvin heard her cries for help, and he followed them all the way to the Acme Bologna Company. This took a lot of courage because bologna is Melvin Beederman’s weakness. It is like Superman and kryptonite! Will Melvin overcome his bologna weakness? Will he save Candace? Will the McNasty Brothers and the McNasty Sisters be defeated by Melvin Beederman? You will have to read the book to find out!

I think Melvin is very caring. In chapter 9, he drops Candace at home after she had a bad at school with some bullies. He also takes good care of Hugo. I think Melvin is helpful. He helps Candace with math, like the time they studied together in the library. My favorite part of the book is the last few chapters because it is so exciting and the author leaves you in suspense!

I recommend this book to my family and friends. I think everyone would find it funny. This would be a good book to read on your own or have your parents read it to you. The illustrations are really good. It might be a good read-aloud series for a third or fourth grade class. Melvin Beederman the Revenge of the McNasty Brothers is the second book in the series. If it is a read-aloud, then you can hear them all!
