Have you ever heard of a woman named Harriet Tubman? She helped people on their way from slavery to freedom on the underground railroad. The author?s great, great, grandma was a slave. She wanted to tell how hard life was for the slaves. This story is told through the characters, Cassie and her brother Bebe. They were flying in the sky and found an old ramshakled train. Bebe gets aboard. Cassie tries to reach Bebe but she can?t. Bebe rides the freedom train and Cassie follows in the slaves footsteps. She starts at the plantation and travels all the way to Canada and freedom.
We like this book because Faith Ringgold combines imagination and true facts. We wanted to fly like Cassie and Bebe. We also liked learning more about Harriet Tubman. We first read about her in the book, Wanted Dead Or Alive The True Story of Harriet Tubman by Ann McGovern.
We recommend this book to people who want to learn about Harriet Tubman, the Underground Railroad, and slavery.
