Lulu and the Cat in the Bag

In Lulu and the Cat in the Bag by Hilary Mckay, Lulu opens a bag and finds a cat inside but a few days later it disappeared! In the beginning, a bag is left on Lulu’s doorstep. Lulu opens it even though Nan, her grandma, told her not to. Inside Lulu finds a huge marigold colored cat. Nan is not at all pleased because she does not like pets. The next day, the marigold cat helps with gardening to prove it is no harm. Nan agrees that it is no harm and lets Lulu keep it. But the day after that it disappeared! Lulu, Mellie, and Nan look all over town trying to find the marigold cat. Nan calls everyone she can think of who could have seen it but none of them have. What will they do now? Read the book to find out if they ever find the marigold cat.

Lulu and the Cat in the Bag is a wonderful book. I think the pictures are really detailed. For example, you can really tell how the characters are feeling when Rocko , Lulu’s dog, tries to kiss Nan. A really funny part was when Mellie put a bag on Charlie’s head. In the story Charlie was talking about when his cat Suzy brought live mice into his house and the mice chewed up the wires. Nan was freaking out so Mellie put the bag on his head to make him stop talking. My favorite part was when Rocko was eating guinea pig food and tried to kiss Nan. Nan was thinking of ways to get rid of Rocko when she said the word walk and Rocko tried to kiss Nan.

I would recommend this book to people who like cats and like humor. The story is mostly about a cat that gets let out of a bag, runs away, comes back, but runs away again. In the story there are a few parts where it gets really funny like when Nan snored and she freaked out. If you are interested in reading this book, go to a library or book store and get it!
