If you want to read an amazing book about an adorable horse, then Barbaro, by Shelly Fraser is for you!

Barbaro starts out as a young foal. He goes to many barns to get trained to be a champion. When Barbaro participated in races, he would always beat the other horses by a landslide. He was born to run!

Later in the story, Barbaro races in the Kentucky Derby and tragedy strikes. Barbaro leaves the gates, speeds around the corner, wins the race and then suddenly...HE FALLS!

My favorite part of this book was when Barabaro and his best friend played and raced together. I enjoyed reading about their friendship and the activities they shared in. It reminded me of how I and my friends are.

This book was very unique and special because when you read the parts about Barbaro racing, you feel like you are actually there watching. Faser gives such vivid details throughout the book. In fact her writing is like nothing I've ever read before. Unfortunately, Barbaro is not a series, although this makes it a one of a kind!

I would recommend this book for someone who enjoys animals, particularly horses, and who likes realistic fiction. I would rate this book 10 out of 10 because of its compassionate story and vivid details. If you want to know what happened to Barbaro after his fall you're going to have to read it to find out!
