The book The Haunting by Joan Lowery Nixon is a long story. It has 184 pages and is published by New York: Delacorte Press 1998. When her mother inherits an old plantation house in the Louisiana countryside, 15 year old Lia seeks to rid it of the evil spirit that haunts it. There are a lot of different spirits. They only appear as faces with no bodies.

I like the book because it was scary. One time almost all the ghosts popped out of the walls and scared Lia. This is not like any book that I have read, because this is the first mystery book I?ve read. I like movies about ghosts and haunting. This book is similar in some ways to some of scary movies I?ve seen.

I recommend this book to grade 4th to 8th because it?s an interesting book for the grades.1st to 3rd grades might be frightened by the book. Nineth through twelfth graders are too old to be interested in this book.
