Clementine and the Spring Trip

In Clementine and the Spring Trip by Sara Pennypacker and illustrated by Marla Frazee, Clementine is nervous for the spring trip because there is an eating sound rule and she does not want to break it. In the beginning, Clementine is nervous for the spring trip because she does not want to get scolded by the fourth graders for eating loudly. In the middle, everyone on the bus keeps talking in Olive language and she feels left out. In the end, Clementine might have to think about breaking the rules. Will she? Read to find out.

Clementine and the Spring Trip is an amazing book! I like the illustrations because you can really tell what the characters are feeling. One example is when Clementine sees her apple tree growing and she is happy and you can tell she is happy. A part that is sad is when Clementine can’t speak Olive language and she feels left out. Clementine is on the bus and she is trying to make up her own language to stop thinking about Olive language since she can’t speak it. I like how Clementine helped the pilgrim lady by washing her food because she was showing kindness by helping. Clementine cleaned her food because she did not want to go to lunch because of the eating sound rule.

I would recommend this book to 3rd through 5th graders. I think many 3rd through 5th graders are facing the same problem of being nervous to stick up for themselves, so that’s one reason I’m recommending this book. It also teaches to believe in yourself. Another reason I’m recommending this book is because the problem is really interesting and I think 3rd through 5th graders will like it. If this sounds like an interesting book for you, go get it.
