Smile

Aaahhh! My teeth! They hurt so bad. Have you ever fallen and knocked out your two front teeth? Raina did in one of my favorite books, Smile by Raina Telgemier.

To begin with, this story was about a girl named Raina who knocked out her two front teeth and she had to get braces. It was the worst time of her life. She cannot eat peanut brittle or gum or caramel or popcorn. It was a very hard time for Raina to chew so she ate soft things like ice cream and bananas. She also had to bring toothpaste to school and wax, mouthwash, toothpicks, floss, and much more. She also gets bullied because she looks like a nerd.

In addition, I loved this book because it was so funny. A reason I think it was funny because Raina overreacts over everything because her situation seems so bad. A character I liked best was Raina’s sister. She was kind of mean because her sisters in pain, and all she wants to do is watch T.V. so her sister complains and makes fun of her. Not that I blame her because I would probably do the same thing. This book also has unique illustrations. I liked them because they are like comic strips on each page so it helps the reader to see the story while reading it.

In conclusion, I loved this book and I hope you will too. I think think this is a great book for ages 9 and up and I recommend this book to anyone who likes a funny story because it was very funny and I think you will like it. Go check it out today!
