The Gingerbread Man (retold)

One day, an old lady baked a gingerbread man. She checked to see if he was finished baking, and when she did, he got up and ran away. He ran away from the old lady, the old man, the horse, and the cow, even though they all told him to stop running. The Gingerbread Man met a fox at the edge of the river, and the fox told him that he did not like to eat gingerbread men, so he would carry him across the river. The water kept getting deeper and deeper, so the Gingerbread Man stood on the fox's head, then his nose, until finally, he got close to the fox's mouth. It was funny when the Gingerbread Man kept saying "Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!" A lesson that this story teaches you is that you should listen when people tell you what to do. If you want to find out what happened to the Gingerbread Man, read this book.

I liked the book because the Gingerbread Man is funny when he is running away from people. My favorite part was when the Gingerbread Man ran away from the cow, because it is funny to see the cow chase him. The illustrations are good because when the fox grins at the Gingerbread Man, it looks like a real fox.

Kids who like gingerbread man cookies would like to read this book because the Gingerbread Man is the main character. I thought this book was easy to read, so I think that most second graders could read it by themselves. Adults and children might enjoy this book if they like gingerbread cookies.
