Thunder Cake

It was an extremely hot humid day on her grandma’s farm in Michigan. She was hidden under the bed. In the story her grandma helps her overcome her fear of thunderstorms. For example, like we said before she was hiding under the bed. Her grandma convinces her not to be scared. They go to Nellie Peck Hen for eggs. From Nellie Peck Hen they go to Old Kick Cow for milk. From Old Kick Cow they go through the Tangle-weeds woods and then the dry shed.

There are three reasons we like this book. First, it tells a true story of the author's life and how she overcame her fear of thunderstorms. Second, her illustrations are amazing to examine. Lastly, we especally like this book because it has the recipe for Thunder Cake in the back of the book.

We recommend this book for people who spend a lot of time with their grandmothers. We also give this book 5 thumbs up.
