I think this book was good. I would give it 3 stars out of 5 stars, because this book is historical fiction and I'm more into mystery books. My favorite part was when Mrs. Sedgewick from the Routt County Education Office went to the school and said she was going to tell about the secret school to the school board. I liked it because it made me curious to know what will happen next.
I found many characters that I liked and found interesting, especially Ida. I liked Ida because she got voted to be a teacher and that was always her dream. A character that reminded me of myself is Ida. Ida reminded me of myself because I've gotten voted for things like she has been. She never gives up her dream of being a teacher and I will never give up my dream of being a lawyer.
I would recommend this book to a 4th grader and older because I think a 3rd grader would not really understand this book. A type of reader who would like this book is a person who wants to be a teacher or someone who likes historical fiction.
