I liked this book because it made me sad, and I like sad books a lot. My favorite part is when Kirsti shows the Nazi soldiers her black shoes of made fish skin. I liked Annemarie because she is brave like my mom. One of the characters that changed was Annemarie. She became more mature at the end. When Uncle Henrik told Annemarie, “you are brave,” that reminded me of what my mom says to me. One of the big ideas in the story was friendship. Annemarie and Ellen stood stood by one another.
I recommend this book to 4th graders up to adults because they will like it. I know my Aunt Janet liked it! I think the most interesting part is the history. I like this book a lot because it makes me think of my mom.
